Honoring & exploring the Indigenous heritage in Canada

'A Sunrise Gathering’ is a fundraising event being organized by the Event Management Students at Algonquin College, in partnership with the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre. The Event Management students organize and execute events in Ottawa to raise funds for community-based charities. For example, after several years of hosting events, the students raised more than $1M for the Children’s Wish Foundation.
This year, we are focusing on raising funds for a worthy organization. The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre is a non-profit, community-based agency that is dedicated to helping youth and families across Ontario overcome substance use, mental health, and related issues.
‘A Sunrise Gathering’ will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Algonquin College. This event will provide guests with the opportunity to experience the rich heritage of the Indigenous arts, culture, and teachings that are woven into the fabric of our country.
Our event logo depicts a Sun rising from the land and sea. The colours are adapted from the Indigenous medicine wheel, presenting the four aspects of our being – the spiritual, emotional, physical and mental.​
